Classes at Cool Spring, 1469 Lloyd Rd. in Charles Town, W.Va. Cool Spring is a nonprofit organization that provides exciting learning experiences in art and nature in a beautiful natural setting. April 1 to April 5, 10 to 13 year olds can participate in a Spring Breakout. Youngsters can draw, paint and write in journals about the nature all around them. Clark Dixon, who has spent his career working with youth in the National Park Service and as a professional educator will lead the class. Clark is a serious artist and works in watercolor, drawing, pastels and colored pencils. Starting April 7 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., artist Judy Bradshaw will teach drawing and painting to all levels of artists. April 4 to April 28, the Maryland Ensemble Theater (MET) will present “Finally Heard: Feminine Heroes of an Uncivil War,” an original production about the real lives of six extraordinary women who lived during the Civil War. On the 150th Anniversary of the bloodiest conflict in our nation’s history, MET is thrilled to bring new life to its first ever production that gives voice to little known stories of these miraculous women. Recently married couples have the opportunity to sell their extra wedding decorations to soon-to-be-married couples at the Hitching Post RoundUp sale, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Springfield Farm Barn, 14 Springfield Lane, Williamsport, Md. The National Park Museum and Visitor Center in Gettysburg, Pa. will be sponsoring “An Evening with the Painting” April 13 at 6 p.m. Visitors can learn about the history and conservation of the Cyclorama painting depicting the Battle of Gettysburg. Combine wine and wildflowers at Tarara Winery’s Wildflower and Wine Hike April 13, 21 and May 19 and June 2. Visitors can hike through a spring of wildflowers with a naturalist and wildflower expert for guides, teaching participants to identify early spring flora and fauna along the riverbank and trails. This is the first year for “The Charge: 5K Obstacle Challenge Race” run by the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Department on April 13 at Sam Michaels Park, 1516 Job Corps Road in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. Not a typical challenge race, it will have the distinctive characteristics of obstacle races - jumping over, under, and through obstacles, getting dirty, and using those muscles people didn’t realize they had, but The Charge runners will be doing it alongside Civil War soldiers and cavalrymen, hurtling over Civil War themed obstacles. The 47th Annual Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point Races take place April 14 at the historic Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. Riders from across the state and the globe travel to test their mettle in a thrilling contest. This rain or shine event features something for everyone, including vendors, and is family-friendly. Gates open at 11 a.m. and post-time is 1 p.m. Come and cheer on the jockeys as they run over the course set on the 360-acre historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
