Operation Mountaineer Pride Supports Local Troops

As our soldiers have circled the globe, in World Wars I and II, to Korea and Vietnam, in Desert Storm and now in Afghanistan and Iraq, folks at home have supported them by sending care packages.

Now a local Vietnam War veteran and an airman's wife have put together a program to continue supporting our troops. Realtors William Shultz and Terri Reid are behind Operation Mountaineer Pride, which sends necessities and treats to our deployed neighbors and friends. Reid's husband, Staff Sgt. Ernest Reid, recently deployed with our 167th Airlift Wing, from the Eastern Panhandle to Iraq.

We all know someone who is serving overseas. In addition to government-issue gear, our soldiers can use certain extra items that the military doesn't provide, that cost each soldier about $460.

Items include: ACU (Army Combat Uniform) Ponchos and Hydration Backpacks

ABU (Airman Battle Uniform) Day Planners Batteries Sunscreen

And as the Holidays approach, favorites like beef jerky, snack crackers, pretzels, hard candies, hand sanitizer, gum, plastic containers of nuts and home-baked goodies are always appreciated.

Tax deductible donations can be made to The Jackson Perks Post 71; American Legion; 225 West Washington St.; Charles Town WV 25414. Attention 167th ANG.

Additionally, items may be delivered to Prudential Shultz offices in Charles Town, 451 Euclid Ave; Inwood, 7829 Winchester Ave.; or Moorefield, 224 North Main St.
